PHOTOS! Garden State Capitol Reception in US Capitol
Welcome to our 2014 Garden State Capitol Reception!
Over 150 guests attended the Garden State Capitol Reception, hosted by the NJ State Society and the New Jersey Group, Wednesday, July 16, 2014, in US Capitol Visitors Center Atrium.
Coming together for this annual event were members of Congress, staffers, federal agency officials, alumni of New Jersey colleges, government affairs reps, and our members and sponsors.
We said thanks and "bon voyage" to our three departing Members of Congress, Reps. Andrews, Holt and Runyan. We also saluted the New Jersey Maritime Industry, which brings $40 billion in economic benefit and 250,00 jobs to New Jersey. And, guests enjoyed complimentary pirate's grub, brew and grog (NJ's own Busted Barrel rum in a Captain Kidd Buried Treasure cocktail!).
Many thanks to Senators Menendez and Booker and Reps. Frelinghuysen, LoBiondo, Garrett, Lance, Runyan and Payne for joining to fete our honorees at this event.
We also want to thank the Port Authority of NY/NJ, the New York Shipping Association and the US Maritime Alliance for supporting this event, including supplying us with materials for our maritime display. And, what a treat to serve rum from what is currently NJ's only rum distillery, Jersey Artisan Distilling of Fairfield. Help us thank this NJ small business by asking for Busted Barrel rum at stores and taverns. You can find it in DC at Paul's Liquors (5205 Wisconsin Avenue NW) and check NJ locations at JerseyArtisanDistilling

DIRECTIONS:Enter the US Capitol Visitors Center using the long, downward sloping walkway across the street from the Supreme Court. AFTER you enter and clear the security screening, walk through the set of doors and STOP! Do not go through the next set of doors, but mmediately make a 180 degree pivot and look up. You will see the words "Congressional Auditoriium." Go through those doors and you will see the event in the "Atrium" below.
PARKING and METRO: There is street parking in the blocks surrounding the Supreme Court. There is also plentiful parking a few rather long blocks away at Union Stattion. Best bet is to METRO to the Capitol South Metro, blue and orange lines.
