NJ Cherry Blossom Princess Application Deadline
If you are interested in being considered for 2013 NJ Cherry Blossom Princess, please email email@example.com. Please also alert others to this announcement, as the National Conference of State Societies has moved up the deadline for us by six weeks this year, to December 15.
This is not a beauty pageant, but a unique opportunity for a young New Jersey woman to represent the Garden State and the Society and at the same time, learn about other states and countries, as well as her own government and to tour the Nation's Capital
NJSS selects its princess each year based on her leadership, talents, academic achievements, volunteer activities and interest in social, community and world affairs.
The applicant must be at least 19 years old but not have reached her 25th birthday prior to the end of the festival, be either a NJ native or have other strong NJ connections, be at least a high school graduate, unmarried, knowledgeable about NJ and available for the entire festival week of April 8-15 to be in DC.
It is helpful if the nominee has a friend or relative in the Washington, DC, area with whom to stay, or has a sponsor willing to underwrite a week of lodging and expenses of approximately $1200. NJSS also contributes about $2,000 to pay the entrance fee and other expenses.
As is tradition, one queen will be chosen from among the princesses by a spin of a wheel at the gala ball and will travel to Japan for numerous service activities with Japan's Cherry Blossom queen.
